Cecil Walker with Shimano 600 56cm (SOLD)
Bikes / Road BikeHere’s one of our recent restorations, a 1981 Cecil Walker, rebuilt with its original Shimano 600 groupset. This frame was hand made in Melbourne from Tange No. 1 tubing. We built some new Mavic Open Pro’s on the old stock Shimano 600 hubs, for a light and durable wheelset. We love getting these old roadies back to their best. Something we pride ourselves in at Pedal Cyclery is that we know you don’t need the latest thing to have a beautiful functional bike, and this Cecil is a great example of that. Where necessary we’ve upgraded the bike to new components – modern dual pivot brake calipers have much better braking power, and we’ve replaced all the wearing parts. Topped with a new Selle Italia Turbo saddle and our Melbourne made Dipell leather bar tape to match, this is one of the sleekest bikes in the shop.
Another advantage of these older 80′s frames is that they have the clearance for wider tyres. On this one we’ve got 700×28 Panaracer Ribmo tyres, their extra air capacity makes for a much more comfortable ride, and therefore gives you the ability to ride on rougher gravel roads.
