Custom Velo Sport 650b Randonneur (SOLD)

Bikes

This bicycle is a creation that has come together by digging deep into to our knowledge and skills base. Starting out with a 56cm Velo Sport Alpin vintage touring frame (circa 1970’s), Taylor (our in-house welder) modified the frameset to move from the original 27 x 1 1/4 wheel size to the more desirable 650b (or27.5) wheel size. This change alows for a lower centre of gravity and best of all, larger tyres! The frame has been blasted and powdercoated in the British racing green colour known as Brunswick Green.

Part of our passion here at Pedal Cyclery is building bikes with used components that can be incorporated into any job (be it service or custom build) in such a way that the outcome equals or even rivals the alternative of using newly produced parts. This bicycle is a prime example of that work.

Shift and brake control is enjoyed from the wonderful and reliable feel from the Campagnolo (ITA) Centaur Ergo shifters (with brand new hood covers) From there, the rest of the drivechain and shift system is a mix of Shimamo (JAP) components including our customised 46/28t compact touring crankset. On the rear, an 8 speed 11-32t casette provides an adequate range for some hefty mountain assents. THe Panaracer Gravel King 650b x 48mm (27.5 x 1.90), will be fast on the road AND hug the gravel with confidence on those long days in the bush! Mid fork eyelets and double rear eyelets make the frame ready for racking to your liking.

We’ve handbuilt the wheels with used Shimano hubs, DT Swiss spokes and a new MAch 1 650b double wall alloy touring rim.

If you somewhere in the range of 170-180cm tall and are in for owning a beautiful bicycle styled in the fashion of René Herse (arguably the most beautiful bikes ever made!)
